Position Summary: Responsible for the design, configuration, security, and maintenance of the company network infrastructure. This includes the local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), storage area network (SAN), and Virtual Network (VM). Performs a wide variety of evaluation, maintenance, installation, and training to ensure network performance meets company and user satisfaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Observes CEMC safety rules, procedures, safety policies, and bulletins.
  2. Responsible for design, configuration and maintenance of routing and switching environments for LAN, WAN and SAN utilizing various connectivity (microwave & fiber) including routing protocols such as EIGRP, OSPF, and BGP.
  3. Ability to troubleshoot upstream internet provider issues such as BGP Peering and Routing.
  4. Ability to configure, troubleshoot, and maintain corporate Cisco firewalls and IPS/IDS technologies.
  5. Responsible for design, configuration, and maintenance of wireless network environment.
  6. Responsible for design, configuration, and maintenance of Storage Area Network (SAN) that supports all data server systems including IVUE.
  7. Plans, coordinates, and implements network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware including PCI compliance.
  8. Responsible for the installation, updates, and management of Windows Servers.
  9. Responsible for design, configuration, and maintenance of VMware environment for on-going network and disaster recovery.
  10. Responsible for design, configuration, and maintenance of Voice Network, including Cisco Phones, call routing, IVR and faxing technologies.
  11. Works in conjunction with Communications Engineer with the physical installation and configuration of fiber network for routers and switches.
  12. Responsible for maintaining an inventory of network equipment to include servers, virtual servers (vm's), phones, switches, routers, cabling, and various other peripherals.
  13. Assists with the design, configuration and maintenance of Microsoft Windows Active Directory and email environment used in conjunction with Office 365 and Azure in the Cloud.
  14. Responsible for support maintenance contracts of network equipment, servers, storage and related software.
  15. Makes recommendations to the Supervisor of Information Technology regarding new hardware, software, and/or technologies deemed to improve the reliability and efficiency of the company Wide Area Network (WAN).
  16. Assists in the annual budget process for network hardware and software.
  17. Ability to work and coordinate with Partner, Vendor, and Consultants that assist with our environment.
  18. Reports any network use to the Supervisor of Information Technology that might be deemed in violation of company policy.
  19. Assists in managing and maintaining Cooperative's Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity documentation.
  20. Assists with special projects as directed by the Supervisor of Information Technology.
  21. Provides back-up assistance to other IT team members in all areas of installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of the network and end-user systems.
  22. Confers with network and computer users about how to solve existing system problems.

Equipment Used:

Cooperative vehicle, desktop & laptop computers, mobile devices, smart phones, fax, copier, switches, routers, servers, Ethernet cable management, racks, Storage Area Networks (SAN), Firewalls, power meters, wire crimpers, Ethernet punch down tools, etc.

Software Used:

Microsoft Operating Systems and all Office Suite products, Cisco System Software, System diagnostic software packages, TCP/IP, DNS, UDP, VoIP

Education Degrees, Certificates, Licenses, and/or Training: Exceptional favorable experience may be considered for a portion of the education requirements.


  • Minimum of an Associate's Degree with certification in an information technology-related field. Additional continuing education or training in fields related to Information Technology.
  • Valid Driver's License.


  • Bachelor's Degree in an information technology-related field.
  • Certifications: Microsoft (MCSE, MCSA, or MCITP), Cisco (CCNA or CCNP), Security (CISSP), or other applicable certifications.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Exceptional favorable education may be considered for a portion of the experience requirements.

  • Minimum of five years applicable experience designing, configuring, securing, and maintaining a company network infrastructure.
  • Thorough understanding of Local Area Networks/ Wide Area Networks and basics behind its workings (DNS, Security, IP Routing (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, HTTP, VPN, Email Routing, SPAM, etc.)
  • Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices, including wireless access points, firewall, routers, switches, controllers.
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, and operating bulletins applicable to Cooperative's information technology.
  • Knowledge of VMware / Vcenter / and Failover Clustering
  • Knowledge of installing and managing Windows Servers.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve problem areas quickly and make timely decisions.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently, and in a team environment to organize and prioritize work and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to maintain a clean and organized work environment to include IT Storage and Test rooms.
  • Ability to coordinate and work effectively with IT consultants and vendors as needed to support the Cooperative's interests.
  • Ability to create support and provide leadership for implementation of new ideas and technologies.
  • Ability to work with Cooperative employees, at various levels.

Working Conditions:

  • Minimum of eight hours a day, five days a week.
  • Subject to on-call schedule as conditions arise.
  • Erratic working hours and pressure to meet various deadlines.
  • Primarily works within office environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Occasionally travels to district offices.
  • Occasionally travels to meetings, to include overnight, outside of CEMC service area.
